Story Submission Guidlines
We have lots of great stories for 2008. We will resume reading submissions in October. Please do not submit stories for consideration until further notice.
Submission Needs: Original, unpublished works of western fiction set in the American Old West before 1914. Short stories and novels in the classic style for a general readership. No language. No sex.
Word Length: Short stories from 3,000 to 10,000 words. Short novels over 40,000 words. Long novels over 90,000 words.
Payment: $50 for a short story. $250 for a short novel. $500 for a long novel.
Rights: First serial rights (for the magazine) and first electronic rights (for promotion of the magazine on the greatwesternfiction.com website).
Format: Submit the story in a Word document attached to an email sent to story@greatwesternfiction.com
Art Submission Guidelines
Please continue to submit illustrations or photographs for consideration.
Submission Needs: Illustrations or photographs that evoke the American Old West. The best illustrations/photographs seem to have a narrative quality to them. These four styles are preferred: 19th century, Remington, Harper's Weekly, Western pulp magazines of the '20s and '30s.
Payment: $30 for an illustration/photograph or $300 for an illustration/photograph used as a front cover.
Rights: Royalty-free use and unlimited use by the publisher. Non-exclusive.
Format: Submit the illustration/photograph attached to an email sent to art@greatwesternfiction.com |
